Sony’s E-Mount has the widest range of third-party lens support of any camera system. These include all major manufacturers, from long-established European brands such as Zeiss and Voigtländer, to renowned Japanese lens makers such as Sigma and Tamron, and even a handful of promising newcomers from China.
In 2011, Sony released the technical specifications of the E-Mount system. In retrospect, this decision proved to be visionary. Opening up the mount paved the way for third-party manufacturers to produce lenses for it. The result: a lens ecosystem that is unparalleled in its breadth.
Spoiled for choice
This post focuses on the APS-C crop format. However, it is probably worth noting that, if you include both crop and full-frame lenses, there are about 250 autofocus lenses available for E-Mount. You are spoiled for choice, especially when it comes to primes with classic focal lengths for standard and portrait fields of view.
